My experience with tension - (I know you experienced ones will roll your eyes!) came one night when I was getting very frustrated. Because I believed the numbers on the tension dial meant something and the tension was like that on my Janome (which I virtually never adjust) I was turning it bit by bit with very little difference. Finally I started to use my brain and actually look at the tension adjustment as I was adjusting it. Lo and behold, it is a continuous loop – no start or finish – and you sometimes have to move it quite a bit for any change to take place. Since I got the tension adjusted to my satisfaction, I have not changed it for the last three or four quilts, always with the King Tut/Bottom Line combination. I think I am getting confident enough now to try different threads and play with the tension. But my major learning happened when I accepted that Liz may sew, but she really isn’t a sewing machine. At least not in the way I’ve been using conventional sewing machines all my life.
Hope my insight helps some one.
